Location
The Húsavík Whale Museum
is located in Húsavík in the North East of Iceland, which is about one hour's drive from Akureyri, the capital of the North.
Húsavík by road 85
is a fishing village with about 2.400 residents. On the eastern Shore of Skjálfandi Bay, facing the 1100m high and snow covered mountain range "Kinnarfjöll" the town is one of the top tourist attractions in North-East Iceland. The local mountain with the name "Húsavíkurfjall" is 417m high and offers excellent views across the Bay, Grímsey, the Island at the Arctic Circle, and Iceland's largest glacier "Vatnajökull". Being only 60km south of the Arctic Circle, the town enjoys 24 hours of daylight during the summertime.
Top Whale Watching on Top of the World
The town is known for being one of the best places to watch whales in the wild, which is offered by two whale watching companies, Northsailing and Gentle Giants.
