Hvalaskóla / Whale-School

A new educational project is on its way. Established and conducted by Húsavík resident Þórhildur Jónsdóttir, the Whale-School is a 3-day workshop for school children and includes whale and ocean related activities.

Cameras instead Harpoons

On May 8th 2007, eco-acitivist Bernhard Bechter and his team visited the Husavik Whale Museum. The 39 year-old Austrian has planned to cycle around Iceland, pulling a coffin painted with the Icelandic flag, to seek the dialog on the contradiction of whale watching and commercial whaling in Iceland.

The Season Start

This year´s season started not only with lovely temperatures and lots of sun in April (yes, global warming reaches Iceland...), but also with abundant wildlife in Skálfandi Bay.

Humpback whale from Skjálfandi Bay photographed off Africa

It is still quite early in the season but the museum’s researchers have already been out on the whale watching boats several times to collect data and take pictures of whales that have been sighted during the trips.
