International Cooperation in Whale Research

Michael Tetley, a British marine biologist and phD student from the University of Wales in Bangor, spent 2 weeks at the Museum this summer, while conducting research on the minke whales. Within the short time of his stay, he went through all the documents and evaluated all data the Whale Museum staff has collected during the past years.
Michael improved the data base and recording sheets, and established an effective catalogue format for the pictures. Being a phD student, the museum agreed to be one of his CASE partners, supporting his minke whale research focusing on the three different areas, Canada, the UK and Iceland. Furthermore, an agreement was made to facilitate one student from the University of Wales each summer, to do his or her master thesis on the ecology of whales in Skjálfandi Bay.
