The Research Project for 2006
On Wednesday evening, Arianna Cecchetti, a master student from the University of Wales, did a presentation on the museum's research program and the forthcoming project in 2006. She will be spending the summer in Húsavík, studying the whales of Skjalfandi bay. The data gained will help to form the thesis for her Masters degree. Arianna is the first student sent by Michael Tetley to do research, while utilizing the museums data base.
Arianna together with a staff member of the museum will be out in Skjálfandi Bay during the next few months to collect data on whale sightings, behaviour, and information on weather and sea conditions during the trip, to better understand the whales and the correlation between the animals and their habitat. The results of this research will be used by Michael Tetley for his phD degree.
