Poster for the Conference of the American Cetacean Society

Micheal Tetley, is submitting an abstract for the upcoming American Cetacean Society Conference in California. The proposal describes the knowledge gained on the migration of the white-beaked dolphin in Icelandic waters. Two years ago, Birgit Jansen, a visitor, took photographs of white-beaked dolphins while on a whale-watching trip in Olafsvík, West Iceland. She then sent her pictures to the Museum, where we compared them to the pictures in our database. Mike used a computer software for the evaluation and found that one of the dolphins she had photographed was the same individual we had sighted only one week later in Skjálfandi Bay. Within a period of one week, the dolphin had traveled from the west coast to the northeast, covering almost half of the Icelandic coastline!
