Studying Marine Mammals in the Wild: Field Course
Biology students from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland and from the University of Iceland are participating in a field course about Marine Mammals here in Húsavík. The course is organised by the Húsavík Research Center, Dr. Marianne Rasmussen, and the University of St. Andrews, Dr. Patrick Miller. Basis for this course is the Whale Museum, where there will be gatherings, lectures and the analysis of data collected in the field. Starting today with a lecture by the historian and whaling history specialist Dr Ole Lindquist, followed by a guided tour of the museum by biologist Arianna Cecchetti and the introduction of research methods by Patrick Miller from St Andrews, the students will split up in groups and go on field trips to collect data at sea. The course will continue until the 20th of September.
