„Vísindakaffi – Science Cafe“ in the Whale Museum September 23rd, 2008

In context of the International Academic and Research Week September 22nd - 26th, special events are taking place in many European countries, addressing scientific research to the public. The Icelandic Research Center (RANNÍS) supports the "Vísindakaffi", which is arranged to inform the local community about the research performed and gives the opportunity to meet the researchers. Organised by the Nature Centre and the Academic Center, Húsavík's Vísindakaffi is being held in the Whale Museum on the 23rd of September. Researchers from the Nature Center, the Research Center, the Folk Museum and the Whale Museum will present their work concerning birdlife and the marine environment in Skjálfandi Bay.

Entrance Fees 2011:

Adults: 1.250 ISK

Children (6-14 years): 500 ISK

Senior Citizens (from 65 years): 900 ISK

Groups (+10): Adults: 900 ISK, children: 400 ISK

2010 - A Year of Renovation at the Whale Museum

In the spring the entrance was moved to a restored area in the eastern part of the museum which now hosts the tourist information centre for Húsavík, together with the museum´s store.

Humpback whale from Skjálfandi Bay photographed off Africa

It is still quite early in the season but the museum’s researchers have already been out on the whale watching boats several times to collect data and take pictures of whales that have been sighted during the trips.
