Dive-time Rates
Below the Surface
Since whales and dolphins spend only a small percentage of their time at the surface of the water, it can be difficult to acquire an appreciation of their activity while submerged. Studying the lengths of their dives can give us a better idea of how they spend time underwater. By noting the time and location of each dive and comparing this information to the specific region of the bay, we can gain a better understanding of what may be occurring beneath the surface.
So far only the dive time rates of Humpback whales have been analyzed in any detail.
